Harwood Savin has recently been successful in securing planning permission for an "air-space" scheme of six additional storeys on top of the existing two storey Wilko retail unit in the centre of Bognor Regis.
Harwood Savin advised the former K College (now Ashford College) on the renewal of outline planning permission for up to 241 residential units on the College’s existing campus, which helped to facilitate the development of the College’s new campus in Ashford Town Centre at Elwick Road.
Harwood Savin successfully secured a -hybrid- planning permission for 12,700 sqm new building Further Education College, 442 Student Residential Units, and up to 125 residential apartments in Central Brighton for City College Brighton and Hove (Now Greater Brighton Metropolitan College).
Harwood Savin was successful in securing planning permission for a replacement dwelling in the countryside. Our client approached us having acquired a property which was under construction but which had not been built in accordance with the approved and historic planning permission.
Harwood Savin was instructed by a client to advise on a number of matters relating to a very prominent Grade II listed building on a main shopping in this popular seaside town.
Harwood Savin successfully secured a ‘hybrid’ planning permission for 12,700 sqm new building Further Education College, 442 Student Residential Units, and up to 125 residential apartments in Central Brighton for City College Brighton and Hove (Now Greater Brighton Metropolitan College). This scheme sought to deliver a state-of-the-art new education facility into the heart of Brighton as well as much needed student and market housing. The proposals evolved over a three-year period and involved extensive and complex negotiations with Brighton & Hove City Council, local politicians, residents, businesses and stakeholders.
As well as preparing and coordinating the submission of the planning application and negotiating the consent, Harwood Savin were also responsible for the management and submission of a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment.
The scheme, entirely self-financed by the College, with no capital funding from Central Government, was subject to a detailed viability assessment as part of the Section 106 negotiations. Harwood Savin provided detailed planning input in relation to the monetary obligations within the agreement and the figures for the viability exercise.
We also assisted in undertaking an extensive public engagement strategy prior to and during the consideration of the application, including facilitating public exhibitions, meetings with key stakeholders, and political lobbying on the run up to the planning committee.
Following the Council’s resolution to grant planning permission, Harwood Savin worked closely with the Council, the applicant and via agents, prospective purchasers of the latter phases of the development, to agree appropriately worded planning conditions and a Section 106 Agreement that was not onerous and ensured that the development is fully implementable, and the value from the site was maximised.
Following the Merger of City College and Northbrook College, Greater Brighton Metropolitan College has revisited its estates strategy including the proposals for the Pelham Street Campus and a revised scheme, using the basis of the original proposals, is about to commence on site.
